Monday Garden Club

I feel like a broken record every Monday when I report that my plants are still in the greenhouse and the garden is still empty. Although I would really like to get going on planting, I'm glad I've waited so far. We had freeze warnings and overall cold and crappy weather all weekend. On Saturday the weather was so nasty that we didn't even wheel the greenhouse out of the shed. The Gardener started a fire in the wood furnace (I know, we totally baby our plants) and we flipped on the big overhead fluorescent lights to fake the sunshine. Not sure if the plants bought our little act, but they are alive and not frozen so I call it a win. We have a tentative planting date of May 21 and I can't wait! Still some work left to do in the garden before planting but it's getting there. I want to work in our almost finished compost and a few bales of peat moss and some composted manure into the new section, plus we still have to get all of the support structures out and assembled. We also have to come up with a way to keep this guy out of the garden. He seems to have a problem with boundaries.
Remember last week when I showed a photo of the very weedy asparagus? Apparently displaying embarrassing garden photos are the kick in the ass I need to get out there and pull weeds.
While I was out there with my weed bucket and hand held weeder, I hit the strawberry patch again and noticed that the strawberry plants are blooming!
Now for all you gardeners out there who wish to participate, either leave a comment on what's growing in your yard, or post a Monday Garden Club update on your blog. Don't forget to drop your link in the comments and I'll add it to this post.

I sent a couple people over here, I was hoping they'd link up this week. Oh well. Your greenhouse looks great and your planting area is awesome! Oliver is a hoot. Yep, you just can't ask a Saint to move and expect he do so.

I may try aspargus next year. But I've never actually eaten it. I have no clue as to the taste, lol.

The plants are looking good. We have killed our seedlings. I think we will buy plants when it is time to plant. I do not have a green thumb.

It's been a little chili here too. Planting time will be here before you know it and you'll be blowing me away with all your garden's awesomeness! Your plants are looking really good... wish I had your thumb!

This is my first year of planting and I'm loving every minute of it!! My two boys also enjoy watching the garden grow and they help care for it daily. We live in Atlanta and the weather has been great so for the time being my garden is thriving. Not guaranteed to last though since I've never been able to keep plants alive inside or outside. LOL! Here is a link to my blog and if you go to the categories on the right column you can search via garden and see my start to finish venture so far. Wish me luck! And any advice you can share with me would be appreciated. I need it!! www.yahres.wordpress.com

We've had cold and shitty weather all spring. We finally had some days in the 60s over the weekend, but seriously, we still have some trees here with no leaves, which is unheard of.

I have accidental tomato plants growing!

I'm impressed with the asparagus, I had no idea that it grew out of the ground like that! Not sure how I imagined it growing, but not like that. :D

Hi, Sheila sent me here and I made it a little later than I had planned. I had the field trip from heck with my 11 year old yesterday, was a little exhausted afterwards. Anyways, your garden looks great! I just started gardening this year and am chronicling it on my blog. Here's where you can find it http://www.easyecotogo.com/2010/05/grandmas-garden.html

Next week I'll be on time!

I. LOVE. THAT. DOG! I blogged about some st. bernard puppies about a week ago. Someone dumped them at animal control cause they couldn't sell them. Luckily, they were rescued by my friends and all found homes.

Awesome, your Monday Garden Club is growing. I'd love to be there with all of you this summer but I'll settle for living vicariously (guess it's all I can do anyway). Well, I'm off to check out the other gardens. Cheers to everyone participating in the Monday Garden Club.
