Color War

Our morning routine wouldn't be complete without a screaming, throw yourself on the floor fit. Usually Mae because she's the only one who really needs to be out of the house in the morning (besides Hubby of course, he's long gone before I even wake the children). This morning was no exception and was actually a bit enhanced. You see today is Mae's turn to provide a snack for the class, which means I had the extra task of preparing snacks for 18 students.

While I packaged up a dozen and a half bananas and baggies of green grapes, I suggested Mae pick out some clothes and get dressed. I reminded her that today is Red Grammer day at school and all the children were encouraged to wear red. Excited to have an outfit request, she ran into the bedroom to rummage through the big pile of to-be-folded clothing. She comes out with a pair of pink tights with red hearts on them, a denim skirt and a new sweater with pink, white and black stripes. I suggested she ditch the sweater and wear her cute shirt with the stripes and hearts on it. Very cute with the skirt and those tights. With that, the whining and face contorting started "You said I could wear red. Waahaaaa. My tights have red on them and this sweater is my favorite (she's hasn't had the chance to wear it yet, but whatever. Not the point.)and DON'T YOU KNOW WHAT PINK IS MADE OF??? RED AND WHITE!!!"

After that outburst, I said no to the new sweater and she ended up wearing the shirt with the stripes and hearts.

Let me guess. This never happens at your house, right?

I wish this never happened at my house. It's so familiar, though, that I have to laugh - especially at the face contorting! Thank goodness it's not just my kid!

I bet taking her picture really helped the situation, too, huh? ;)

Rachel,
It was one of those moments when I said to her "I want you to see how ridiculous you look right now." And I've been posting way too many happy kid moments. This is reality...

Great in the moment shot! I'm amazed you got away with it. They can be passionate about their clothing choices.

Right there with you! Can totally sympathize. Usually, I get a hrumph and a stomp out of the room. But occasionally, it gets worse.

What do you do to have the camera so handy? I really need to do more candid shots.

And to a different degree, this STILL happens in my house (just not with the screaming so much, mostly with stomping. They get older, they stomp and slam. lol
